If biodiversity is so important, why is Europe not languishing?

I don’t often respond to many comments on this blog unless they are really, really good questions (and if I think I have the answers). Even rarer is devoting an entire post to answering a question….

Rogers:  This is good.  There are numerous related issues.  One being our lack of basic knowledge of individual species life histories and something I think of as ecological plasticity.
