Spark Your Craft: Workshops, Circles, and Projects at Infinite Writers

At Infinite Writers, we enjoy writing. It’s a journey, and like any good adventure, it’s better with fellow travelers and a few good maps! We offer a range of activities designed to equip you with practical tools, foster supportive connections, and launch your words into the world. Think of this as your writer’s gymnasium, workshop, and roundtable, all in one.

Here’s a look at what you can jump into:

Section 1: Sharpen Your Tools – Our Workshops

Every writer, whether seasoned or just starting, benefits from adding new tools to their kit. Our workshops are designed to do just that – offer practical insights and techniques you can use immediately to improve your craft.

What to Expect:

Each workshop is a hands-on session. We’ll start with some core ideas (think of it as the “why it works”), look at examples (the “see it in action”), and then get you writing or discussing (the “try it yourself”). We’ll draw inspiration and guidance from foundational texts like the Writer’s Primer and Life on Land: Nature Writing Techniques.

Choosing Our Focus:

Our first workshop will explore the bedrock of all good writing: Understanding Your Purpose and Audience, based on Chapter 1 of the Writer’s Primer.”. We’ll hand out ballots here so you can help choose the topic for our second workshop!

Future Workshop Topics:

You, the members, help steer the ship! Potential topics are drawn from the chapters of The Writer’s Primer and Life on Land.

Section 2: Find Your Tribe – Writing Circles

Writing doesn’t have to be a lonely endeavor. Our Writing Circles are small, supportive groups where you can share your work-in-progress, offer and receive constructive feedback, and build lasting connections with fellow writers.

  • How They Work: Think of a writing circle as your trusted peer review team. Members typically share excerpts of their writing, and the group offers thoughtful responses, helping each writer see their work through fresh eyes.
  • Getting Started: We’ll kick off the formation of our first Writing Circles after our second workshop. We’ll distribute a ballot then to gauge interest in different focuses, such as:
  • Fiction: Short Stories
  • Fiction: Novel Development
  • Creative Nonfiction: Personal Essays
  • Creative Nonfiction: Memoir
  • Poetry
  • Professional Writing: Articles and Reports
  • Nature Writing
  • Mixed-Genre Circle

The Goal: To create spaces where writers feel safe to experiment, motivated to revise, and celebrated for their progress.

Section 3: Create Together – The Infinite Writers Anthology Projects

Ready to see your name in print as part of a collective creation? Infinite Writers is excited to launch collaborative anthology projects, bringing together the diverse voices of our members.

We’re kicking off with two exciting themes:

  1. Anthology I: Our Special Places
    • Focus: Place-based writing. Share your stories, essays, or poems centered on a location that holds meaning for you – whether it’s the unique charm of Dewey-Humboldt, a cherished childhood home, a favorite wild landscape, or any place that has shaped your story. Let’s map our experiences through words.
  2. Anthology II: Infinity and Beyond
    • Focus: Open exploration! This anthology welcomes a universe of creativity: short stories spanning all genres, thought-provoking poetry, insightful news analysis, fascinating science writing, and compelling personal essays. If you can dream it and write it, there’s a place for it here.
  • Stay Tuned: More details, submission guidelines, and timelines for these anthologies will be announced at our meetings and on the Members-Only Portal page. This is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate, get published, and share your work with a wider audience!

Ready to dive in? Whether you’re looking to learn, share, or create, Infinite Writers has an activity for you.
