Wrote comment re: your email on “6th Extinction.” Painted Bunting a relative no show in San Antonio from Mexico and Central America. Author, Stan Tekiela [ Birds of Texas: A Field Guide,] notes that more and more of the colorful mail, make them prize capture birds to sell to tourists as caged birds, as if they were Parrots!

Trophy hunters hoping to get a lion before they are all gone, impotent men hoping to get some rhino horn before they are all gone, grizzly hunters hoping to get one before they again verge on extinction . . . . Feeding selfish desires at all costs is a pervasive characteristic that pops up in our species with high frequency. One would have thought that our high level of sentience would automatically lead us to learn self gratification in thought rather than in destruction. But alas.
