I wanted to comment on an essay with the above title, but missed the comment window. I recommend the essay. Here’s my comment:
Your framing of the current conflicts as accelerants rather than causes matches what the systems literature has said for half a century. The “Limits to Growth” curves stop where the decline begins, though. Building on my earlier works “Silent Earth” and “Biosphere Collapse,” which trace human impacts on the atmosphere, biosphere, and hydrosphere, I tried in “Quiet Earth” (https://garryrogers.com/downloads) to follow the trajectory past the edge of the graph: through the bottleneck and out the other side. The path is hard, and the losses are immense. But it ends with humanity in a new role: a member of the biosphere, perhaps its steward, but never again its sole manager. The new role could hold across the next million years of Earth’s continuing evolution. I count that as hope worth the work.
